New car dealership - Car insurance contact numbers in South Africa
Claims, new-quote and roadside numbers for 30 South African car insurers, each checked on the insurer's own website on 29 September 2026.

This page lists the claims, new-quote and roadside assistance numbers for 30 South African car insurers. We checked every number on the insurer's own website on 29 September 2026, and each row links to the page we checked.

If you have just had an accident, a theft or a hijacking, use the claims or emergency line, not the sales line. Sales lines are for new quotes and are often closed after hours, while most claims and assistance lines run 24 hours.

Numbers change. If a number does not connect, use the insurer's own website or app, and never pay money into a bank account given to you by an unexpected caller.

Which number to call, and when

  • Accident, theft or hijacking: the claims or emergency line. Report as soon as it is safe, and open a SAPS case first for theft, hijacking or injuries. Our claims guide lists the documents you need.
  • Stuck on the road: the assistance line on your policy schedule, which often sits with a separate assistance company.
  • New quote or switching: the sales line or the insurer's online quote. Have your car's make, model, year, registration and your driving history ready.
  • Changing your policy or cancelling: the service line for existing clients, or your broker if you bought through one. Our cancellation letter template helps you put it in writing.
  • A complaint that the insurer has not resolved: the National Financial Ombud, which is free.

How to avoid a fake insurance call

Criminals pose as insurers to collect premiums, claim payouts or banking details. Insurers do not ask you to move your debit order to a new bank account over the phone or WhatsApp. If you get a call like that, hang up and phone the number on the insurer's website or your policy documents. You can check that a company is a licensed financial services provider on the FSCA register.

Frequently asked questions

Are these car insurance numbers official?

Yes. Each number was taken from the insurer's own website on 29 September 2026, and each row links to the page we used. Numbers can change, so confirm on the insurer's site before calling.

Which number do I call after an accident?

Call the claims or emergency assistance line, not the sales line. Claims lines at most insurers run 24 hours. Open a SAPS case first if anyone is injured, or for theft or hijacking.

Can I ask a car insurer to call me back?

Most direct insurers have a call-me-back form on their website. The link is on each insurer's review page on this site, in the contact section.

What if my insurer does not answer or resolve my complaint?

Put your complaint in writing to the insurer first. If it is not resolved, you can take it to the National Financial Ombud for free.
