Cross Country Insurance Consultants sells full comprehensive car cover called Ultimate Motor for standard cars, 4x4s, SUVs and motor homes, including off-road use. It also has separate motorcycle, classic car and marine products. The company started in 1999 for the 4x4 market, so off-road cover is its home ground, but it is not a motorcycle-only business.

Cross Country is a registered underwriting management agent. Its policies are underwritten by Renasa Insurance Company Limited, so check both names on your schedule.

This review explains what Ultimate Motor covers, the published excess, the tracking and app options, and how to quote. We are an independent information site and not a broker, so we point you to Cross Country's own channels for a quote.

What Cross Country Insurance is

Cross Country Insurance Consultants (FSP 39547) is a registered underwriting management agent. That means it designs and administers the policies, while the insurer that carries the risk is Renasa Insurance Company Limited.

The company was founded in 1999 for the 4x4 market and now covers standard cars as well. Confirm the underwriter on your policy schedule and check the registrations on the FSCA register.

Ultimate Motor and the other products

Ultimate Motor is the main car product. It is full comprehensive cover for private, business, professional, farmer and tour-operator use, including off-road use, and it applies to standard cars and motor homes as well as 4x4s and SUVs. Optional [third party fire and theft](/claims/third-party-fire-and-theft-claim/) and third party cover are also available.

Motorcycles, classic cars and marine cover are separate products. If you ride a bike or own a classic, ask Cross Country which product applies and read that product's own wording, because the Ultimate Motor terms above do not carry over.

If you drive a plain private car and never leave the tar, compare Ultimate Motor against a couple of mainstream insurers on like-for-like cover and excess. The strongest reason to consider Cross Country is off-road use, business use or cross-border trips.

Excess, tracking and exclusions

The Ultimate Motor benefit table dated 01 April 2026 publishes these excesses:

ExcessAmount
Basic accident, principal driver, spouse and nominated driver5% of the loss, minimum R3 500 per claim
Basic accident, any other driverMinimum R4 500
Any driver under 25Extra R5 000 on top of the basic excess
Theft or hijack, no tracking device10% of the claim
Theft or hijack, tracking device installed and activatedWaived

Two claim-free years on the insured vehicle with Cross Country waives the basic accident excess for the principal driver and spouse. Drivers under 25 are excluded from that waiver.

Non-disclosure is the usual reason claims are reduced or rejected. Be accurate about who drives, how the vehicle is used and where it is kept. Read the exclusions in your own wording, especially for business, off-road and cross-border use.

Pros and cons

On the plus side, Ultimate Motor is a full comprehensive product with published excess amounts, wide use options including off-road and business, cover into neighbouring countries, and 24/7 emergency assistance. Fitting a tracking device removes the theft and hijack excess.

The trade-offs: the excess is a percentage with a minimum, so it rises on bigger claims, drivers under 25 carry an extra R5 000, and quotes go by email rather than an online form. You also depend on the underwriter, Renasa, for the claim decision. Compare against a couple of other insurers before deciding.

Quoting, claiming and escalation

As an independent information site and not a broker, we point you to Cross Country's own channels. Email [email protected] for a quote and have your vehicle, licence and driver details ready.

For claims, email [email protected] and use the claim forms on the product page linked in the contact table. We found no separate claims phone number. Keep records, photos and any police case number. If a claim is declined or short-paid and the internal complaints process does not resolve it, escalate free of charge to the National Financial Ombud, which now handles short-term insurance complaints previously dealt with by OSTI.
